Nearing a conclusion PDF Print E-mail

light-switch-offDue to the unprecedented duration of the current outage, I have decided to abandon my original plan and instead stop the monitoring study immediately and ask DTE to come pick up the recording device and begin analyzing as soon as humanly possible.  My original fear of stopping the study right at the first sign of trouble was that it could be inconclusive, but seeing that this incident is now pushing 24 hours of failure, I doubt that we will be hard pressed to find measured, usable data.

Unfortunately, as with every instance of electrical downtime in this particular larger event, there is absolutely no way of knowing when power will be fully restored or if and when it will go down again.  If private electricians and DTE engineers are clueless, you can imagine the state of my understanding.

Nevertheless, resolving this issue as quickly as possible remains my top priority without question.  My plan has been established and made explicit in preceding emails.  I will keep everyone up to date as any new information develops.

Four DTE trucks just left our building.  Again, they can find nothing wrong on their end.  They all seem like good guys, and seem to be honestly trying their best to help us.  Of course, this doesn't mean much at the end of the day, but I just thought it was something worth mentioning to everyone.

Moving forward, DTE will be placing two monitoring devices in our main feed on Monday, this is the soonest they can possibly do it.  We will allow them to record all electrical activity for about three days.  This test is free.  After this, we will know conclusively whether the issue is ours our DTE's.

If it's our problem, we will immediately hire electricians to start from the beginning and work their way forward, tracing every connection and mechanical component until they discover the culprit.  This could take hours or it could take days, but there is no other choice.

A new electrician (and fresh set of eyes) will be stopping by tomorrow afternoon to give a complimentary and preliminary look at our grid before DTE conducts their tests, just to see if he can catch anything obvious right off the bat.

I know that this isn't the most convenient situation in the short term, but I can assure you that this is the quickest path formidable to recovery.

Finally, it is important that all home owners understand that they are always using all of their electronics and appliances at their own risk.  The association cannot and and will not ever be responsible for any damage to personal property whatsoever.  Speaking only for myself, I know that I plan to use all electronics throughout the weekend, but will probably unplug expensive devices when I leave the building (I am not overly worried).

I know that this is stressful, but I can promise you we will get through this.

Thanks for your patience, and enjoy your weekend.

frustratedAt 4:30 this morning I woke up to my dishwasher flickering, knowing immediately it was a sign of the power issues. I tried turning off the elevator and nothing happened. In order to sleep I have killed my units breakers so I can sleep, so I am writing this from my phone (apologies for typos).

One resident has informed me that she has contacted DTE and they said the problem will be fixed by around six ... perhaps this means they are aware of a problem, perhaps farther than our building?  I wish I knew if people outside of the building were experiencing this

I am going to sleep. When we wake if the power is still dim I say we all call DTE. I can't be certain it is thhem but it is worth a shot.
